Veiled Bride, Marble Bust

Veiled Bride, Marble Bust - hand made in England

  • This is a new, large, very detailed, delightfully sculpted bust of the famous Veiled Bride. The fine facial features of the young woman are evident behind the folding drape of her wedding veil, which is accented with a garland of flowers and a bow at the back.
  • It has been faithfully reproduced from an original and even has a signature of Filli Firenze on the back.
  • Hand made in Staffordshire, England from bonded Italian marble and is suitable both outdoors and indoors.  The bust is made from 96% marble which means it is cold and firm to the touch.  It is attached to a solid carved black marble base.  Being hand made, means they are only made in limited numbers and so are very collectable. The detail is superb and these items are often mistaken for art works of great age.
  • Measures 14 1/2" high x 9" wide x 5 1/2" deep (36 cm x 23 cm x 14 cm) approx.  Weight 7.7 Kg (17lb) approx.

History behind the sculpture

  • Raphael Monti 1818-1881, became famous for his ability to make marble appear as gauze (cloth).  So great was his influence that young trainee sculpters would often be required to create veiled vissions, after Monti's work.  The Italian A. Filli Firenze created a near perfect copy of the veil impression and became famous in his own right.  It was a popular piece copied in Copeland Parian.
  • Parian ware was developed in England and first introduced in 1846.  It was marketed as an affordable alternative to marble and became very popular throughout the 19th Century. Many famous works were copied, including this one.
