Pair of Art Nouveau Plaques (Mucha) - 1

  •  A pair of Art Nouveau plaques, with a young lady on each.
  • They have been faithfully reproduced from original drawings by the famous Artist, Alphonse Mucha.  Mucha was one of the principal architects of the Art Nouveau movement.
  • Measures - each: Height 9 1/4" (23.5 cm) x width 4 3/4" (10 cm) x Depth 1/2" (1.5 cm) approx. Weight 450g each (1lb) approx.
  • Hand made in Staffordshire, England from bonded Italian marble.  They are made from 96% marble which means they are cold and firm to the touch.  It also means that it is just as suitable for display outside as it is in any room.  Being hand made, means they are only made in limited numbers and so are very collectable. The detail is superb and these items are often mistaken for art works of great age.
  • Would make a thoughtful gift.

ABOUT Mucha

Alphonse Mucha played an important role in the advancement of ‘modernism’ and is today considered to have been one of the principal architects of the influential French Art Nouveau movement, which thrived at the turn of the twentieth century.

He was a particularly strong influence on many artists of the period and his style was widely copied, with its blend of natural and abstract decorative patterns. However, Mucha's reputation lay not only in his wonderful painting, but also in his innovative posters and illustrations.

He was born in Moravia in 1860, and studied at many institutions across Europe, including those in Prague and Munich. In 1890 he travelled to Paris to meet the great painters of the period, and studied under Laurens, Boulanger and Lefebvre.

From 1895 to 1910, Mucha was a respected leading light of the French decorative art world. In 1910 he retired to Prague and there produced a substantial body of impressive work, characterised by his delicate portrayal of detailed images.  Mucha died in 1939.
